I just wanted to drop you guys a line to say goodbye and thanks for having me!

Some of you may know that the video game company I worked for ran into some financial trouble and laid off most of its staff right before the E3 Expo. Crystal Dynamics in the Bay Area (Soul Reaver: Legacy of Kain, etc) made me an offer a few weeks ago. I start working on a super secret project right after 4th of July weekend.

Although I will still be coming up to Seattle from time to time to perform with my burlesque troupe (glitzkriegburlesque.com) and to visit friends, I figured it probably be for the best if I removed myself from all Seattle tribes until such a time as I can move back.

In the meantime, you can see my latest photos on Sin Garden (singarden.com) and semi-daily journal on my personal domain (josienutter.com).

Until then...
About Rapport

This text was from a response I sent to Elijah about potential workshop dates, but I thought it should have it's own posting in case anyone would like to build on it as it's own thread.
------------------------------------------------------------

Establishing Rapport is crucial to a successful performance of any nature. Rapport is a very large part of what I'll be teaching.

The term "rapport" is not unfamiliar to us, however, the concept is quite facinating and particularly useful to artists.

The dictionary defines "Rapport" as "a relationship of mutual trust or emotional affinity."

In Neuro-Linguisics, rapport is about understanding and appreciating another human being's model of the world (how they organize reality) and communicating in such a way that trust is established.

Communication occurs when a thought or idea is expressed, received, and confirmed.

As artists, our performance is the media by which we express ourselves artistically.

Without communication, there can be no expression, and without expression, art does not exist.

In the workshop, we will explore the concept of rapport, how it applies to us as artists, and learn ways to consistently create this relationship when we perform.

Workshop/Dates??

Hi Seattle Actors.

Alrighty then. Now that I have a handful of people interested in the workshop, let's talk about the workshop and some potential dates.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOPS:

Working Title: Acting on the Right Side of the Brain
Neuro-Linguistic Techniques for Actors
Parts I and II

Instructor: Rob Cochran, CHt
MP Neuro-Linguistic Programming
Certified Hypnotherapist & Life Coach
Rob holds a BFA in Acting from the Greer Garson
Theatre Center and is trained as a Hypnotherapist
and Master Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic
Programming through Bennett/Stellar University.

Date/Location: To be Determined (weekend in June or July)

Description: Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is the art of
modeling the form and sequence of internal
states, internal computations, and external
behaviors so that any known behavior or ability
can be replicated. Neuro-Linguistics, simply
put, is the language of the brain.

PART I
This workshop will examine the structure
of human behavior and how it applies toward
creating and developing a character that is
multi-dimensional and realistic to both audience
and actor. You will gain a greater understanding
of how you can draw upon the resources within
yourself to establish rapport with any
character you create.

PART II
Building on the models learned in Part I, this
second workshop will focus on utilizing NLP
techniques for dealing with issues such as line
memorization, performance anxiety, unblocking
creativity, artistic pliability, audition
preparation, confidence, and career
motivation.

I intend for the workshops to be on a Saturday and Sunday in June or July, depending on the availability of you all.

Each workshop will be from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with an hour for lunch.

The cost for each workshop will be $50 each. Since this is what I do for a living, I prefer not to accept trades, however if you refer a friend, I might be able to workout a deal with you. Based on your profiles, you all seem like interesting people and I'd really like all of you to attend if possible. I will also be promoting this workshop outside of Tribe.net, but I'd like the four of you to be the core.

The workshops will be designed so that you could take them independently and get a lot out of them, but I recommend taking both to get the full benefit of the concepts being presented. However, if you are unable to attend two workshops either because of financial reasons or scheduling issues, don't let that discourage you from taking one or the other on it's own.

So the next step is to agree upon a date. Why don't we start by answering the following: (this is still not a commitment so don't worry, I'll let you know when we approach that level.)

A) What weekends in June are you NOT available?

B) What weekends in July are you NOT available?

C) Would you prefer to have the workshop in June or July?

Thanks again for your interest and participation. I look forward to hearing from you all.

Rob
